Having won the toss and opting to bat first, Headley lost an early wicket and never managed to recover. Apart from the stubborn and at times enterprising opener Calvin Bandi, who scored 38, no Headley batter scored more than 7, with 14 extras lifting their total to 80 all out after 28 overs. Grayswood were able to chase this total down comfortably, eventually winning by 9 wickets.

For Grayswood’s bowlers, targeting the stumps was the order of the day, with 6 men out bowled or lbw. Opening the bowling was Iain Jackson, who produced an impressive nine over spell and was rewarded with two wickets. At the other end, Cam Kent was economical, taking a pair of wickets at less than 2 runs per over. Gavin Arend, who had initially looked threatening, was run out by Henry Hind after a mix-up with non-striker Bandi. After Jackson and Kent made way, Jonjo Conway and Hind kept the pressure on Headley’s batters, with Conway eventually removing the adhesive Bandi, thanks to a top-drawer catch from Alex Tucker diving to his left at point. As the opener walked from the crease, so too did Headley’s hopes of setting a competitive total, with Grayswood skipper Alastair Gloak taking the final 3 wickets for 6 runs.

Jackson and Tom Barnardo opened the batting for Grayswood and were kept in check by a probing spell from Devin Scott, who eventually took the wicket of Barnardo for 6. However, with Scott out of the attack after bowling 7 overs on the trot, Jackson and new batter Pete Millard were able to play with increasing freedom and intent. Millard in particular looked comfortable, playing characteristic pull shots and late cuts, and the run chase was eventually completed inside 21 overs, with Jackson and Millard finishing not out on 32 and 29 respectively.
